A quick step-in on the PID thing...

As Derek can explain, on Linux, each thread is a process (kind of), so you'll 
see a bunch of PIDs for the shar. On Sun, you'll see
one, like you'd expect.

When you kill it, use the first PID that ends up as the parent of the others.
