I don't expect it will be a problem, but in general it's better that
development and production have more in common than this. I don't object
to using Linux for both, with the move from CMU to I2 being the porting
stage.

I don't (though my limited experience is with Red Hat).

CVS is fine (again, no experience with it, but I know it's standard).

Let's go with whatever comes with the Linux distribution, or in the case
of Solaris, the most recent. What I write will work fine with any recent
C++ compiler, and 3.0 was released six months ago.

We might end up using Berkeley db for something, but that's undetermined
as of now.
