I believe it attempts to use DHCP, possibly it got a reply with incorrect
or incomplete information and thus couldn't get to the outside world. Or
linux.mirrors.es.net was down at the time.

I ran into something similar, but didn't take notes. The install worked,
but then the box came up with an unconfigured interface. I blame
NetworkManager for being an abomination. :) I've had nothing but pain
from NetworkManager and usually turn it off at the first sign of trouble.

You might try to catch the initial 'boot:' prompt and check the available
help screens. I believe you can do something like:

boot: linux ip=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX netmask=XXX.XXX.XXX dns=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

Or something similar to avoid DHCP maybe. Or try having the network
unplugged until it throws up a screen asking you what to do next.
