Hey Joseph,

I downloaded the CentOS 5.7 NetInstall CD, copied the kickstart file from the 3.2.1.1 NetInstall, tweaked a few urls for closer sites, and it worked.  It took an hour to install.  I did try using the CentOS 5.7 install DVD, but there is a problem with the chipset the Optiplex 740 uses which causes the network card not to work.  I'm guessing the NetInstall loads more robust drivers than the DVD installer.

That's odd that the Install DVD and the NetInstall would have different drivers. Glad you were able to workaround the issues though.

Hi Joseph,

You can try taking a CD/DVD install for CentOS 5.7, and using the kickstart at http://anonsvn.internet2.edu/svn/nptoolkit/trunk/kickstarts/reference-platform.ks in its place. I can't say we've tried it, but it should work just the same as the NetInstall. It will still download the Updates, EPEL and pS-PS RPMs from the Internet2-affiliated institutions, but there shouldn't be too many RPMs that need installed that don't come from a stock 5.7. If you'd like to minimize those RPMs that come from Internet2 affiliated institutions, you could change the "a-EPEL" and "a-updates" lines to point to stock EPEL and CentOS mirrors (e.g. baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/updates/i386/ for CentOS updates, and set the mirrorlist=http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=epel-5&arch=i386 for EPEL). Let us know if that works, or if you run into any issues, and we may be able to help.

Cheers,
Aaron

I've been trying to install 3.2.1.1 on some Dell Optiplex 740's with very little luck.  The LiveCD will not complete loading and exits into bash.  The NetInstall seems to be working, but in 20 hours, it is only 39% complete.  Is there an image with all the default packages on disc or a way to make it?  My connection to the internet2 site has always been slow.

Thanks,
Joseph Bernard
