Hi Ilias,

I had the exactly same error message. Check whether the user/password in 
eXist are properly configured either via eXist CLI 
(http://wiki.perfsonar.net/jra1-wiki/index.php/Installation_LS_pre_1.0#Shell_mode 
and the issue command "users" to see users and "ls" to see collections) 
or check for errors in exist.log
