perfSONAR User Q&A and Other Discussion

ISTF's RRD MA and LS have been successfully upgraded to SVN from 2006-09-06
22:05 EEST. We confirm that all the issues we have reported during the last
few days/weeks have been resolved - many thanks again to Roman and Maciej, as
well as to other developers!

Some important settings of the services:

RRD MA registration frequency: once every 300 seconds;
LS cleanup loader interval: 450 seconds;
LS TTL: 900 seconds;

During LS installation we found that after running "ant -f build-xmlls.xml
libs-xmlls" some of the required libraries for LS were still missing. A
workaround, which worked for us, was to rely instead on "ant -f
build-rrdma.xml libs-rrdma", while installing LS. Also the "ant -f
build-xmlls.xml undeploy-xmlls" target unexpectedly (at least for us) removed
some of the above mentioned required libraries from the lib/repository
perfSONAR subfolder, which in turn triggered errors (missing files) during LS
deployment. The workaround was to run (again) "ant -f build-rrdma.xml
libs-rrdma" just before "ant -f build-xmlls.xml deploy-xmlls". It looks like
(at least) these two xmlls-related targets need some fixes:

- "ant -f build-xmlls.xml libs-xmlls"
- "ant -f build-xmlls.xml undeploy-xmlls"

An last but not least, we're still wondering why SetupDataRequest (without
key) processing time in the SVN version of RRD MA is much longer than in the
perfSONAR-1.0 release. Disabling all logging doesn't have any effect on this
performance loss. The good news is that (as we already stated previously)
MetadataKeyRequests are processed much faster by the SVN version of RRD MA.
We've been expecting to see a similar improvement for SetupDataRequest
(without key) processing as well (or at least to keep the former performance
level, which was quite good, when compared to older perfSONAR releases).
