Oh, yes, that's very good point, indeed. I've been contemplating such
server for the Bulgarian NREN... Never found the time to experiment,
sadly. But perhaps I should finally give it a try. Thanks for the
inspiration! ;)
If you're looking to try out setting up your own jabber server, we've had good luck with the Openfire Jabber server. It's quite easy to install and configure. The only thing we've not been able to get working is allowing remote users to join the chat rooms on our jabber server.
