C, most flexible solution to be 100% packaging standards compliant in the
future, without the need for changing paths. This can be done by creating
symlinks. This is not possible with /opt as perfsonar root.

C is okay for me too.
So, all perfSONAR developers are agree with releasing a new RC next week (ASAP please) with this structure? Nicolas, we still have enough time for this new RC for pS 3.1?

Hi,

can you please all vote for the solution to be followed, so we can
conclude.

Cheers,
Nicolas

Hi all,

I just checked my service, and at the moment I have option D instead of
option A, like Cándido :s I presume it is best that I wait for a
decision to be reached before I make a change, right?

Best regards,

Stijn

Hi all,
I'm trying to summarize the options:
A) Put pS services at /opt/perfsonar/services/<name_of_the_service>.
Also, there are symbolic links at /etc/<name_of_the_service>,
/var/log/<name_of_the_service> and
/usr/share/doc/<name_of_the_service>.
B) Put pS services at
/var/lib/perfsonar/services/<name_of_the_service>. Also, there are
symbolic links at /etc/<name_of_the_service>,
/var/log/<name_of_the_service> and
/usr/share/doc/<name_of_the_service>.
C) Put pS services at
/usr/lib/perfsonar/services/<name_of_the_service>. Also, there are
symbolic links at /etc/<name_of_the_service>,
/var/log/<name_of_the_service> and
/usr/share/doc/<name_of_the_service>.
D) Put pS services at
/var/lib/tomcat5(.5)/webapps/<name_of_the_service>. Also, config files
are at /etc/<name_of_the_service>, logs files at
/var/log/<name_of_the_service> and documentation at
/usr/share/doc/<name_of_the_service>.

We should decide which option we like. Also, there is another
interesting question: if we move from (A) to another option, it will be
for 3.1 or the next release?

I agree with Stijn we cannot change every day the paths, but, if
everybody is happy with the option (B) and we don't violate any
packaging standards or any other technical agreement we should
release a new RC with this change ASAP, so it can be included in the
beta testing process. The good news is, after this agreement, we're
not going to modify the paths anymore ;)

Hi all,

because I'm no expert on unix filesystems, I don't really have an
opinion on this. I'm fine with it either way, as long as I don't
have to change the paths every few days because something else gets
decided.

Regards,

Stijn

I think Gijs's comment is very important and reasonable. In my
opinion we can accept the proposal to move all stuff to
/var/lib/perfsonar directory.
It's not a big change but as Gijs said does not violate packaging
standards. Please service developers and release team, send your
comments. We need the final agreement very soon. Thanks Gijs for
your input! Roman
