To addition of my privious mail FHS does;
/opt : Add-on application software packages
Purpose
/opt is reserved for the installation of add-on application software
packages.
I don't see perfSONAR as an add-on application, as how I interprete it,
add-on software is software manually installed by the administrator (not
with the package manager). Since we are integrating the perfSONAR
installation completely into the distribution, including having our own
package repository, I would say perfSONAR becomes a part of the
distribtion. We even created our own perfSONAR installation CD with a
custom version of Debian.
