Hi Guilherme,
the requirements of the package_maker.pl are the same that rpm_maker.pl? Should I execute it in the same way? Do I need an special package for creating .deb files?
Also, when you have enough time, please, update the perfSONAR-MDM-product-build-guide.doc so it explains how to build RPMs using package_maker.pl not the old one.

Thanks

Hi,

The rpm's created with the rpm_maker.pl script won't. All developers should use the new "package_maker.pl" script, which added remove/upgrade functionality and also creates deb packages. The new RPMs will replace the old versions as long as:

- The old and new rpm's were created using the "package_maker.pl" script (this is mainly because name of packages is now converted to all lowercase, but the directory inside webapps can be any case [and the latter is what should be passed to the script]).
- The new rpm has a version number which is newer than the installed version.
- The command issued is rpm -U <package> (the rpm -i command will make all the necessary  modifications  for the new version to be active, but won't remove the old one).

Sorry for any confusion..

Guilherme

Hi David,
in your logs I only see information of the RC4 version. What directories do you have inside /home/perfsonar/webapps/ ?
I'm not sure if the rpm created by rpm_maker.pl replaces the old version or we have to remove it manually.

Hi Candido,

after updating by RPM to the new release,
tomcat refuses to restart
(see attached log file).
What can be done (instead of deinstalling everything (tomcat) which is
a bad and annoying option for an installing user)?

Best Regards
David

Hi David,
The RC5 is out right now! :-)
Also, I've sent a document (it's only a draft now) about how to install and
configure the AS.

Hi Candido,

David,
it's working but you've received the error code 'error.authn.timestamp'.
Could
you send me the log files of the AS?
Now I just realized that I sent the wrong log files.
Sorry for that.
(see now the newly attached files)

They are in
/home/perfsonar/webapps/geant_java-as-xxx/WEB-INF/logs/
Unfortunately, this directory is empty.

Best Regards
David

Thanks

Hi Candido,

the installed AS seems not to work properly.
It does not understand even a AuthNE request!
(see the attached files)

| Hi Candido, hi Michalis,
Hi David,
|
| I tried to install the AS (with perfsonar-tomcat) by RPM on
| the Dante test machine:
|
| Basically, it was no problem on this machine.
| So, as Candido assumed,
| the earlier problems I had on my test machine, might have been
| arised
because
| of the 64-java stuff.
|
| Concerning the installation process (by RPM):
| it is a bit confusing that the recommendation (text message
| during rpm installation) for adding
| the respective jar files to an endorsed dir is unnecessary,
| because there is already such an endorsed dir with these files
| after rpm installation.
| So, you probably could check whether to drop this recommendation
| (text message during rpm installation).
| Moreover, I realized that the adaption of the related environment
| variable
| CATALINA_OPTS is also integrated inside bin/catalina.sh (by using
| some
| specific command line parameter: -security or so).
| So, better adapt the text message during rpm installation to match
| all these (obviously newly introduced) improvements in the rpm
installation process.
|
| Tomcat is running now on the machine.
| I can access it from my local web browser.
| But, what is now todo for configuring the AS?
|
| From the tomcat manager interface I can see that the AS module
| inside
| tomcat is also up and running.
| I can click on the respective link and get an AS configuration
| interface
| webpage (configuration by webadmin, as Loukik refered to it).
| But, for the very first step (service settings) a HTTP password is
| required (User: perfsonar-Admin).
| What is this password, or where can I change it, or how can I
| accomplish the task of configuring the installed AS tomcat module
| otherwise?
|
I think I can answer this question. Try u/p perfsonaruser/perfsonarpass
. Then when the wizard page appears the fields to be filled in should
be
self explanatory(Or at least that is what we expect).

Hope this helps,

Michalis
| Loukik told me that a basic configuration documentation covering
| these issues is not yet available.
| That is why I ask you to give me further advice.
|
|
| Best Regards
| David
