Generally speaking there are different RRD file types and one could 
imagine creating all of them with RRD MA. But all of the metrics 
(utilization, errors, discards) currently used are collected with 
COUNTER type of data source so it doesn't harm. Of course we could 
envisage supporting creation of other types but I doubt it is useful and 
worth efforts.
So I suggest to take it as it is and maybe Roman can improve Interface 
specification if necessary to clearly explain it.
