Any specific programming language you plan to use?

We prefer Python, but if it safes a lot of time/effort we can use something else (like java). But still, we prefer python.

It's difficult to say what will save some times or not (developper proficiency with a language, re-usability of code, long term maintenance of the code). I understand python was used for the netflow MA, so I think that python might be acceptable (though it would requires to an increase in knowledge -python- for the maintainer in the future).

Stephan, any opinion on this specific point?

Stephan, I'm still interested in your opinion :)

Nicolas,

Some things are not clear to me. I'm still in doubt about what is the best language to use. What is the status of the Java PERFsonar API? Is it possible to just write a simple handler for our code and not worry about lower parts?

I would like to have Roman or Jeff answering this specific point.

Or are there a lot of lower element, for example LS

LS: Available in Java (MAciej Glowiak) and perl (Verena Venus).
AA: not existing so far, currently being defined with JRA5. I don't think that an implementation will be available before 4-5 months. (in java and in perl)

We are encoutering some performance problems with the deployment in Java. If you wish, we can schedule a conf call with few developers to give you some insight.

and AS communication, that are still experimental and not completed or unstable?

We already have server/cliend based code to setup an encrypted and anonymized flow data tunnel, but we have startup problem to connect this code into perfsonar. I lost the overal picture a little bit...

The perfSONAR bit is done to request the establishment of the tunnel (this is a particular case of perfSONAR where all the communication isn't done using perfSONAR, in this case not for the exchange of data).
perfSONAR interface are also used to allow the service to register to the LS as well as to authenticate and authorise a user. The most important is to follow (and extend) the perfSONAR schema to cope with the new type of requests.

By using another language than java or perl, you make your life easier when developing, you may also reach better performances, but it comes at a cost that you may have to implement the communication to the LS and to the AA. (unless you can manage to build bridges between the components).

Cheers,

Nicolas
