Greetings;

This morning the CentOS community released a new kernel package, and those 
that run 'yum update' on a regular basis may see that their kernel is 
replaced and tools such as NDT/NPAD will cease to work.  A full write up of 
the improvements in this kernel can be found here:

The CentOS project notes that this update handles many situations involving 
local user exploits, and is labeled as 'important' versus a more serious 
designation.  pSPT users are encouraged to make an informed choice about 
security at each site, and decide how this update will impact your mission.  

The perfSONAR project will work to build an equivalent web100 patched version 
of the kernel, and announce its availability shortly.  In the meantime those 
that are concerned about kernel security may wish to forgo NDT/NPAD use.  
There *will not* be an updated build of the LiveCD/LiveUSB tool for this 
kernel update.
