Ok, so is there anything we should finish up of that Charter?

I have no problem converting to a SIG, however, what there an original charter, and did we accomplish it? is there anything left? should we add anything to it before we covert to a SIG? Do we have any recommendations? like Publishing IRR objects, Publishing ROAs, etc...

So I dug up the charter!

I propose we accept the following as our charter. I cleaned it up a bit and dropped some content that could go elsewhere. Upon hearing no objections, I’ll ask Paul to assist in putting on the wiki. If you have input, I can make changes. Also, we can always change later, after it’s posted

Internet2 Security Working Group
Charter

Introduction

Network-based threats that can disrupt the operation of networks, and the hosts and services they connect, have become more sophisticated, potentially more harmful, and profoundly more challenging to mitigate. The Internet2 backbone, its members’ regional and campus networks, and the “commodity” Internet, provide both attack vectors and targets for these network-based attacks. These threats put our members’ ability to support teaching and learning, research, and collaboration, at risk, as well as sensitive institutional and personal information. In short, they can disrupt nearly all member activities. The Security WG will provide a point of organization around which our community can best address these threats.

Mission and Scope:

The WG seeks to:
  • Improve community awareness and understanding of network-based threats, and their implications.
  • Engage in formal and informal collaborations with Internet2 members. These collaborations may include research, pilot implementations, standards development, policy development, etc.
  • Assist Internet2 in developing threat mitigation services that can serve its members.

Participation

WG participation is open to all Internet2 members. The WG envisions a range of participants from individuals learning about network-based threats, to highly structured collaborations that may include teams from multiple members.

Here is this month's blog post.  I'm a bit late getting it out - sorry!

It seems we will no longer be getting stickers with Jesse's seal of
approval, because he's left Duke to join a private company.  I'm sure we
will all miss him and wish him the best of luck in his new position!

The NTAC chairs have been discussing the current Internet2 Working
Groups.  The idea behind Working Groups is that they should be fairly
short-lived and intended to accomplish a particular task - solving a
problem, making a recommendation, etc.  Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
and Birds of a Feather (BoFs) are long-term groups specializing in areas
of particular interest, but without a specific objective or need for
recommendation.  This seems to be an opportune time to discuss
converting the Security Working Group to be a Special Interest Group,
especially with Jesse's departure.  There are some points of order to be
ironed out, so I'm talking to Ryan Harden about those, but what do you
all think?  Please send me any feedback you have.  NTAC is on April 6,
so we have a tad more than a week.  Thanks!

Adair
