You generally ought to be able to develop the application without regard for
what's being used. The Shibboleth SP would allow that.

Some others probably require application changes. I know of a couple proof
of concepts that have been mentioned on the list lately, beyond that I don't
know.

It isn't as simple as "using that profile". There are hundreds of options,
it depends what's required. The work you're describing would be very large
unless you limited it severely.
