Thanks. I got the rc1 to build once I set the correct path to the message
compiler in the custom build step for both the lib and dll.

I can provide MSVC 7.1 and 8.0 binaries and project files for all
xml-tooling dependencies if necessary. As well as Solaris-sparc-32
and linux x386.

I have built the log4cpp rc1 that is distroed from Internet2. I ran in
some problems with the rc3 (which is the latest from
whover is the log4cpp author - and on sourceforge) and didn't bother to
investigate further. I am sure it can be made to
run with little effort.

I have it on my laptop, eventually I'll be posting it. Perhaps somebody
else who's built it can make their copy available. The project
conversion is automatic from VC6, I didn't have to do much of anything
to it anyway.

I suppose I can do so for log4cpp sooner rather than later, as it's not
really changing and I still have to ship my own version to fix all the
thread bugs. The rest of the dependency set is not frozen, although it's
looking more and more like Xerces 3.0 is not gonna happen soon.
