WHAT IS MEGACONFERENCE JR.?
Megaconference Jr. is a new project designed to give students in elementary and secondary schools around the world the opportunity to communicate, collaborate and contribute to each other's learning in real time, using advanced multi-point video conferencing technology. Presenters will design and conduct videoconference-based presentations and activities focused on both academic and cultural issues. Participants will be able to address questions to presenters and to collaborate with geographically diverse peers in collaborative learning activities, thus building international cultural awareness. (more at: http://megaconferencejr.cciu.org) WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE?
The event will be on May 6, 2004, and it will run from 7 am until 7 pm (EST). The 12-hour duration will make it possible for schools from many time zones to participate during their regular school hours. HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE?
You can suggest a 15-20 min long presentation and tell us about an interesting project that you have been doing in your school. You can suggest activities that could be organized at "downtimes" between the blocks of presentations. Or you can join us as participants, with no special presentation given from your side. (Questions at the end of presentations are more than welcome from everyone). WHO CAN BE A PRESENTER?
Students, teachers and technical staff members. WHAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE PRESENTATION PROPOSAL?
A couple of paragraphs with a short description of the program/topic/project you would like to present, and the names of the people who will be presenting. Note that timing will be very important so keep it to a 15-20 min maximum. Also, give us the time frame that would work best for you and your school (example: 9 am - 2 p.m. EST -Eastern Standard Time). We cannot guarantee best timing for your presentation but we can certainly try to accommodate as many as possible. WHAT SHOULD ACTIVITIES LOOK LIKE?
* Group singing in native language with direct cultural tie-in/native dance * Mini concerts with your school song * Different groups playing (or singing) the same song simultaneously * Quiz bowl * Sports competition, like virtual free throw contest * "Bring and play an unusual instrument" * "Show and tell" * ... And any other idea you may have - describe it to us in a few sentences! WHAT TECHNOLOGY DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE?
You will need Internet2 or comparable high-speed connection. All presentations must be made using H.323 technology, preferably at 768K, and they will be made from the presenter's location. WOULD I BE ABLE TO REHEARSE?
Yes, all presenters will be required to test their connections prior to the event and rehearse their presentations. CONTACT:
