Campus Focused Workshop on Advanced Networks
30-31 May 2001
Georgia Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology
Atlanta, Georgia

The Internet2 series of Campus Focused Workshops are held periodically in
different regions of the country and provide the opportunity for network
personnel in the region to attend an Internet2 workshop with fewer travel
constraints. Workshops in this series are an excellent way to gain exposure
to Internet2 technologies and see how they apply to the campus environment.
To ensure that attendees who are new to Internet2 get a complete background
there will be some content overlap between successive meetings. Those that
want to follow the latest technology and participate in its development are
referred to the Joint Techs series of workshops.
See http://www.ncne.nlanr.net/training/techs/

Internet2 and Georgia Institute of Technology are sponsoring the third in
the series of workshops addressing the campus issues of engineering
Internet2 network infrastructure. Advanced campus networks are key to
providing faculty and students with world class networking infrastructure.
At the Spring 2001 Internet2 Member Meeting the design of the End-to-End
Performance Initiative was presented with the goal to create a predictable
and well-supported environment. Campuses, at the "ends" of the end-to-end
connection, play a crucial role in all aspects of advanced networking.

This workshop is aimed at campus network personnel and will center on
implementing advanced network services in the campus environment and the
End-to-End Performance Initiative. Participants will learn what they can do
now to implement advanced services on their campus. Participants will also
discuss current roadblocks and technologies needed to implement advanced
services.

+ Planned topics for the workshop include:
+ Campus implementation of Advanced Services including multicast, QoS, and
IPv6
+ End-to-end performance and measurement
+ Network management for End-to-End Services
+ Campus input to the Internet2 direction

The workshops hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm on Wednesday and Thursday, 30 & 31
May, in the Georgia Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology
(GCATT). A block of rooms in the Courtyard Atlanta Midtown is available
until Tuesday May 18, 2001, so register soon.
