Thanks, I did find out what it was. Nothing was wrong, but someone made a change that affected the privileges on a very large number of groups. I was wondering if there's some way to get the contents of the change log table entry that's being processed, but I got the group names from all the entries and was able to figure it out.

Do a jstack on the process id and see whats hanging... maybe a database lock

Our Grouper loader has been processing a change log event for a few
hours, with newer events backing up. Is there any way I can gets some
information about what the event is, to see if the long time is
reasonable, and perhaps avoid it in the future?
