I think most people used for gidNumber:

Actually the gidNumber is just one part of the story. The institutions
with samba need to provision the group's SambaSID, which is the
domainSID - (+ 1001 (* 2 gidNumber)). The assignment of the IntergerID
might help the calculation of the SambaSID, but still there is the need
of a hook.
