So, here's the latest. The second round of full postresql
logging of the failure did indeed show that it failed on a
different chunk of groups, so I'm ruling out db issues.

Yesterday, I decided to add debugger options to the GSH_JVMARGS
environment variable (specifically "-Xdebug
- -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n") so that I
could attach a debugger and get some idea of what the program
state is at the time of failure. Since I'm not really that
familiar with the code, I was hoping that would give me some
idea of where to add extra logging. The silly thing has now
been running happily for 27 hours. I'll keep it in debug mode
through the weekend. If it still hasn't died by Monday, then
I'm going to use this as a workaround while I do more testing
on a non-production setup.
