Hi Gabby,

Bristol doesn't have anything in production but I've outlined the approach 
I've experimented with below along with my understanding of the general 
case at other sites. Others can give more detail on the specifics of their 
appraoches.

We haven't got as far as provisioning, however, some prototype systems use 
custom 'webservices' to query data. I use webservices in a loose sense - 
custom actions which produce data direct from the API.

Some are working with LDAPPC to provision data to LDAP while others 
propagate changes to an RDBMS and then have existing systems to provision 
from there to LDAP.

I believe most people are using the JDBC or JNDI source adapters to 
integrate identity stores, but it is fairly straightforward to implement 
new source adapters. I have written two which both do some level of JDBC 
query, but one also integrates with our contact directory - a Java webapp - 
to perform searches. You can have multiple source adapters configured.
