Grouper V.2.1.3
The Grouper 2.1.3 release is ready, except for the PSP build and resolving Maven issues. This
release is scheduled for January.
Optional Registration When Downloading Grouper
SteveO discussed with Andrew the registration procedures used by the uPortal project. uPortal
uses a note on the splash screen. When the deployer brings up uPortal for the first time, there is the option to register (subscribe to mailing lists), and thus to be notified of future security announcements.
Suggestion to add some text to the Grouper Download page, encouraging registration.

Grouper UI Redesign
https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/Grouper/Grouper+UI+redesign+v2.2
The Grouper UI redesign is moving forward. See samples:
Michael reviewed highlights:
Q: Does having multiple columns complicate things when there are smaller screens?
A: On smaller screen, everything in right column collapses under the middle column, the
columns fold on top of each other. See http://grouper-ui.uchicago.edu/hifi/
The HiFi wireframes are being built using Twitter Bootstrap.
Q: When the screen collapses, should the right column go below the main content?
A: Yes, might make sense
Chris likes the approach, now on the LITE UI, of having an "Advanced" button, going to an Advanced Menu.
Michael: If you select "Alternate Left Column" option, you can see your groups and your favorites
Comment: probably need to see context for the groups (what folders they are in), since otherwise there can be multiple groups, all called "staff"
for example.
But it's too cluttered to show all the groups someone manages within their tree structure.
Possibly show groups and then to the right of them, show the applicable path.
What about the model used in Internet Explorer, with a tree that expands and collapses?
Plus an option to show only those folders where I have things I can manage.
Potential compromise: show the immediate parent folder (but not all ancestors) for all group I can manage.
Note that some people have tens of thousands of things they manage.
Those people with so many groups can use search to find what they want.
However, if for people who only manage a few, it's convenient to have it queued up.
Under the "Alternate Left Column" view, the "show" feature
is a canned set of filters (Groups I Manage, My Memberships, etc); It's not related to the freeform Search above
Be default, the "View a Group" page shows everyone associated with the group
That includes for example, people who have admin priv. but are not members.
There is a filter marked "show" where you can specify if you want to see just members, just direct members, just indirect members, just entities with
a particular privilege, etc.
Tried to put as much functionality on this "View a Group" page as possible without making it too confusing.
Q: Question about the word "people."
Should we use the word "Entities," since sometimes Grouper groups are used to manage things like machines?
A: Probably the word "members" is the best choice. Will find out during user testing if this is clear.
Michael plans to send out a link to a way to test these basic concepts.
Grouper UI Redesign Timetable
May need additional meetings to discuss the Grouper UI
Michael will keep the Grouper Users List informed and keep them involved in the remote testing.
Q: When will we be done with the planning of the wireframes?
A: Michael: hope to be done with the wireframes as much as possible by mid-Feb. 2013
Next Call: Wed. 2-Jan-2013 at noon ET
