We don't currently, but we might if we had multivalued-attributes at some 
point in the future. However, even if we allowed multivalued-attributes who 
are we to say the same value couldn't appear twice? For now we can leave 
the value out of the index

One solution would be to have the column length substituted at build time 
(Ant filtering) based on configuration.
