I'll second that.
I have had to place BPDU filters on my core network for almost identical
reasons. I would really prefer not to deal with this type of issue on
national (and international) networking. It wasn't all that long ago
that some within the research community were proposing exactly this type
of intercontinental L2 networks. It seems that others don't fully
understand why this is a Bad Idea.
