I'll make a more general observation that in an internetwork consisting of
multiple domains of control, layer-2 short-cuts can be dangerous and
disruptive.

Why do we build junk like this which undermines all the existing inter-domain
solutions & re-creates problems which then need to be solved again?

Argh.
