Mike, Thank you for sending this pointer to the working group. The
document makes a number of recommendations about how to better
coordinate and prioritize a broad set of Internet2 real time
communications activities. It also puts forward some high-level
architectural and strategic principles.

The primary recommendation is the establishment of a "Real Time
Communications Coordinating Committee" (RTCCC) modeled after
Middleware Architecture Committee for Education (MACE). The RTCCC
would be a kind of umbrella to provide ongoing guidance on
architecture and strategy across the RTC space. Like MACE, it would
include representation by all working group chairs.

As Mike stated, the document is "final". This is not to say that it
has been adopted by Internet2 as the path forward. It is merely a set
of recommendations proposed to the Internet2 Applications Strategy
Council (http://www.internet2.edu/about/asc.html). The ASC will draw
upon this document and other inputs in making their recommendations.

The ad hoc group that produced the document included representatives
from all Internet2 working groups and projects active in
human-to-human real time communications. Specifically, the group
consisted of:

Integrated Infrastructure for Instant Messaging (I2IM)
Michael Gettes (Duke University)

Internet2 Commons
Cheryl Munn-Fremon (Internet2)

Presence and Integrated Communications (PIC)
Jeremy George (Yale University)

ResearchChannel/Internet2 Working Group
Kathleen McMonigal (University of Washington)

SIP.edu
Dennis Baron (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

Video Middleware for Videoconferencing (VidMid-VC)
Nadim El-Khoury (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill)

Voice over IP (VoIP)
Mike Enyeart (Indiana University)
Walt Magnussen (Texas A&M University)

Voice Disaster Recovery
Chris Peabody (Georgetown University)

Internet2 Staff
Ben Teitelbaum (Internet2)
Ken Klingenstein (Internet2)
Ellen Vaughan (Internet2)

More when we meet next week.

Cheers,
