Disclaimer: I’m not
in the Messenger team, I’m just a user. I can’t speak to
the SP2 upgrade, but on the messenger home page (http://messenger.microsoft.com), you’ll
find this link: “To download a version of Windows Messenger that works with both .NET
Messenger Service, SIP Communication Service, and Microsoft® Exchange 2000
Server, click
here.” This will take you to the
download page for Windows Messenger 5.0 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=77c3799f-6388-4193-8002-be55584c1ac1&DisplayLang=en.
I’m using the 5.0 client to simultaneously connect to the .NET Messenger Service
and a SIP Communications Service
(Live Communications Server in my case). Here’s the connections
dialog: And here’s the
configuration options for Advanced SIP tab: Hope this helps.
You could also get a quick, definitive answer by posting to the Windows
Messenger newsgroup at news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.messenger.
If this fails and you
have specific questions, I’m happy to run to the development team
directly. Todd Needham Manager, Research Programs Group Microsoft Research -----Original Message----- Hi I recently had the same problem. I loaded the Windows XP SP2 and
_it_ "upgraded" Windows Messenger so that I could not use SIP
anymore. I use the word "upgraded" with respect to Microsoft's definition! To get Microsoft Messenger working again I had to down load Messenger from the microsoft web site and reinstall it. Once installed the
old SIP settings were in the new Install. Anyone got a way to bring this to the attention of Microsoft? Stephen -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Windows Messenger 4.7 and XP SP2 Date: Tue, 17 Aug 2004 17:19:52 +0200 From: Erik Dobbelsteijn
<> To: References: <> Hi, Have you noticed that windows messenger (4.7 in my case) seems to be updated by XP service pack 2 to 4.7.3000? I noticed because I couldn't find settings for my SER SIP server anymore :-( This might affect SIP implementations that have been supporting windows
mesenger so far. I'm afraid the only current windows SIP client that supports presence is sipc, wave3 and xten coming out with versions soon
