I agree.   So how do we do that?  Don't recommend any phones without 
it?  An  "Internet2 stamp
of approval"?  What else would pressure the vendors?

CPU cycles per dollar and bandwidth will continue to grow.  So no long term 
excuse for not
supporting encryption.
