VOIP testbed progress report

WG members,

   I know that there has been a long period of slience on the mailing list 
but there have been some activities going on so here is an update.

   We have had about 6 new members join the list over the past few months.

   I am attaching a draft VOIP WG charter for all to review.  We (Mike 
Enyeart and I) would appreciate it if you would look at this by this Friday 
and get comments back to us so that we can get this on the I2 web page.  

   The VOIP testbed that we talked about at the last meeting is underway.  
Indiana and TAMU are about to get the two switches talking to each other 
using Industry standard H.323 gateways and gatekeepers.  We are hoping to 
have them going by this time next week.  Once we have them talking we will 
document what we had to do to get them communicating and ask for others to 
start peering.  We are again hoping to have at least 10 I2 Universities 
peered by the October meeting (20 would be great).  We would like for at 
least 3 of them to be international.  It looks like all you would have to 
have would be a Gatekeeper and a Gateway that are H.323 compliant to 
participate.  We are going to make this vendor independent so pick your 
favorite box.  

   The next item to go up on the web page will be the testbed plan so look 
for it soon.  If anyone has any ideas, especially ones that would involve 
some sort of demo at the I2 conf that would show the VOIP WG coming of age 
please let us know.  Lets also start thinking about how to make our limited 
time together more productive this fall.  

   Mike is doing some liason work with the digital video WG so more will 
follow on that area.
