Thanks to all who attended today's PIC working group, whether in live in
Arlington or remotely. Special kudos to Rodney for working "far outside
of his work schedule" all the way from Queensland. Deke and I also
successfully ran a "proof of concept iChat video session for remote
meeting attendance". Well, successful may be too strong of a word, but
it did work for most of the meeting, and was certainly better than not
being there (for me). The PIC chat room was perhaps the best addition
to the meeting, and it was well used by many. Thanks again to Deke for
chairing the meeting.

We discussed some topics that should receive continued attention:
-Defining use cases for PIC.edu deployments, such as help desk
integration
-Continue discussions of identity management strategies, id federation,
and integration within an existing IT infrastructure (such as Microsoft)
-Defining the strategic value of deploying PIC.edu to institutions:
identity and authentication, @domain.edu single address, history and
logging, non-reliance on external/off campus infrastructure, ...
-Identified the need to evaluate the value of SIP, consistency with
other similar service offerings, IMS,...
-Degree to which we include mobile devices/services (chat, MUC, advanced
presence,...)
-Defining the PIC.edu roadmap
-Defining the PIC.edu short term areas of work and interest (thru next
MM/next Spring's MM)
-Continue to work with Internet2 regarding Internet2 member identity
management and potentially offering of an IM service
-Start do work on deploying PIC.edu on a server (perhaps
"voice.internet2.edu") for use in our weekly calls

So far, the demo looks to be going well. As we run the demo through the
rest of the conference, let's try to observe the following (let's
discuss the results on the next call, or via email sooner):
-What should we do / not do for the next trial?
-What worked technically? What worked socially? What didn't work?
-What features were used most, least, and what changes/additions would
be valuable to users? (how to find peers, search)
-What do we need to add to documentation, or what do we need to document
differently?
-Besides ordering tee shirts :o), what do we need to coordinate with
Internet2 for next time? How should we prepare differently?

All, please feel free to add to the meeting summary. I'm sure the "in
person" experience was different.
Thanks again to Jorj, Elaine, Susan, Rodney, and Deke, all who have
worked hard on setting up the demo and who continue to make the demo
successful.
Talk to everyone a week from Thursday!
-Tim
