*Discussion*

Jamey and Steve have installed the pre-release PIC-SER RPM, and Candace has
revised the install doc based on their feedback. [ACTION] Ben T. and Candace
will install the pre-release PIC-SER RPM, using Candace's revised install doc
and taking notes for improvements to both the package and the documentation.
[ACTION] Jamey will post the PIC-SER tarball. [ACTION] Jamey will send
Candace a
list of the PIC-SER package's library dependencies. [ACTION] Anyone who has a
BSD or other unusual Unix-like system on which they can do a test install of
the
PIC-SER package, will contact Candace.

Candace noted that pua.pl provides a simple way to append PUBLISH messages
from
the client to the servers, so her action item to describe how to do this is
now
moot. See http://pua-pl.berlios.de/.

HP's lawyers have signed off on open-sourcing the skiffs; the next step is to
get the code reviewed by HP's open-source review board. Jamey also noted that
Netgear now has a $70 device which might be able to function as a skiff.

The group discussed plans for the September 19-22 Internet2 Member Meeting.
There was general agreement on Steve's suggestion that we do a one-room
participatory demo, with three or so different PIC-SER deployments set up to
call one another. The overall goal will be to show MM attendees what PIC plans
to pursue next. [See Steve's and Deke's June 9-10 emails for details.]

Finally there was a short PIC-SER discussion. Rodger is joining the proposal
review committee. There was general agreement that we need to find ways to
encourage the various PIC-SER participant groups to intercommunicate and
support
one another. The wiki is one way to do this [see Candace's June 9 note to the
list]; coordinated weekly testing hours and a separate weekly conference call
for PIC-SER participants are also possibilities. Also, [ACTION] PIC will
consider changing its conference call schedule so that PIC-SER participants in
various time zones can join more of the calls.
