I recall a discussion on the simple list a while ago on whether
to concentrate on message oriented or session oriented im first.
The majority felt that message oriented im would be both much more
important and much easier to implement. It may be that they were thinking
of financial and medical applications.

At the same time the consensus, as I recall, was also that session
oriented im would have to be implemented at some point. So, I think it
may be more a question of timing rather than intent.
