All,
Concerns have been raised about our readiness for the SMM trial and
the potential impact of an overly limited success. I agree with some
of the concerns, so I'm going to ask that we take as much of today's
call as we need to talk about the state-of-the-trial and decide exactly
what we are going to do.
I also ask that we agree to a couple of ground rules. One is that
opinions voiced during the discussion not be recorded by the scribe.
The minutes will include only the consensus at the end of the discussion.
The other is that we limit ourselves strictly to a discussion of the SMM
trial. I expect there will be a strong temptation to expand thoughts into
the general future of PIC. We just don't have time for that on this call.
In general, there seem to be three possibilities. One is pushing
the trial to participants broadly as we attempted to do in Hawaii. The
second is pulling participants limitedly as did in the FMM '03 meeting.
The third option is to withdraw the trial from this particular meeting.
All three options have plusses and negatives. Please give it some
thought and join the call if you can. For those who have been involved
and would like to express an opinion but just can't be available today at
4:00 EDT, please send me email and I'll relay your thoughts to the group.
I sent a couple of notes around announcing the working group meeting
in Arlington and asked for agenda proposals. I'm going to put the shape
of PIC beyond the SMM on it now. Other items or thoughts are encouraged.
After that, if it's relevant, we can get into the open AIs and testing
results.
Also, we'll be testing today at 3:30 EDT. Please join in if you can.
