Candace:

I'm not familiar with the Clarisys headset. Is the OS dependency
because of software needed to program to DSP for different
type of audio applications? Can the headset work well without
this software?

We've used Plantronics DSP-100 headsets. They work this
way. The headsets work ok without using the software but sound
quality can be improved by tuning the DSP for specific audio
applications. The problem is that the software provided only
works on Windows OS.

Be that as it may the DSP-100 can be used on both PCs
and Macs.

But you could get a quality analog headset for $30, see:

That's about 80 headsets, if you don't mind analog. And it is OS neutral.

PS - I have a Clarisys handset that is collecting dust - I wasn't too happy with it. No only did I have to give up one of my typing hands to hold it, but it required too much tinkering, downloading new drivers, and reinstalling the software if I had to disconnect it or tried it with different telephony software.

Apparently, I should have taken some cold medicine or something, my cold is affecting my ability to do math. Apparently 100 handsets at $68 a piece is not less then $2,500. With that kind of math, I could qualify to be the CEO at Enron, but that is about it. So here is the real scoop:

First the bad news, the Clarisys does not support Mac. And my vendor only has about 30 left anyways.
Good news, the new generation Clarisys should be out by the time we need them, but they still don't support Mac, and we still can't get 100 of them for $2,500.

It seems to me that since my math was so off (I have no idea what I was thinking), we don't need to look into purchasing any PDA's.

Let's guess a ratio of Mac to PC users so that I can determine how many handsets to order, and we can go from there.

Thanks,
joe
