OK,

It's kind of cool here this morning, too.

Tell me how many addresses for everything and I will give you the numbers for the "public" net. I'm always inclined to add a couple to the number you give, so either don't pad, or tell me you're padding.

I will respond today.

The way things are shaping up, it kind of looks like there isn't any need for "static authentications", if everything's going to be on the same L2 blob. Keep in mind that anything with a Java-capable browser can authenticate itself, with the instructions you will recieve on Tuesday or so. It'll be basically : Load a web page, enter your email-address-of-record, the password that you will choose on your initial visit, and voila.

So, cogitate about authentication, let me know about that, as well.

As I recall ALS this chilly, snow-filled holiday morning it uses ARP
(or is it RARP?) to find the IP address from the MAC address. So, the
ALS server, at minimum, must be in the same layer2 domain as the UAs.

All,

No one has chimed in yet to support or refute my suspicion that we
want addresses on the public authenticated net, not the speaker/demo
net. We want to be close to users' machines, especially for room
weather pings, and we don't want to have to worry about routing
policies that make it difficult to "reach one side from the other".

In order to bind "pals.internet2.edu" appropriately, I need to know
what we are doing (and possibly need new addresses from Alan) by
Tuesday.

Cheers,

It sounds to me like we might *only* want addresses on the public

OK,

If I haven't mentioned it, know that there are two networks for the
TIP2004 conferences.

I just sent Ben addresses for the Speaker/Demo net.
The other net is the Public Authenticated net, for attendee wireless,
terminal room, laptop bar, where all of your participants' user machines
will be.

You may want some fixed addresses on the public network as well, and
some MAC-based static authentications, if you are to reach one side from
the other. If so, sending us mac addresses in advance is good. Don't
delay shipping or anything, but it would be good.
