For quite a while now the multicast video streams called "Mystic Penguins"
and "Mystic Belugas" have had strange video problems. I finally got round to
looking at them the other day, and found this:
11:12:22.500398 IP 64.251.63.66.40075 > 233.53.228.231.4431: UDP, length 1472
11:12:22.500594 IP 64.251.63.75.1026 > 233.53.228.231.4431: UDP, length 1472
11:12:22.503063 IP 64.251.63.66.40075 > 233.53.228.231.4431: UDP, length 1472
11:12:22.503338 IP 64.251.63.75.1026 > 233.53.228.231.4431: UDP, length 1472
That's two sources sending to one group, both on the same UDP port. They
appear to be in lockstep, sending at exactly the same rate. Unfortunately VLC
has a lot of trouble dealing with that ;) If I kill one stream by installing
a null mroute for the other, the video works just fine, and they both appear
to be exactly the same camera.
Anybody know who at Mystic is responsible for this? I have to assume that
it's a simple configuration mistake to have two sources with the same video,
though it is odd that the problem would affect both of their streams. In any
case neither one of them is usable as it is, and they ought to be fixed.
Thanks,
Bill.
