It is a known bug – at least I found mention about it in the trac going back one year.  http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/2631

That post includes a workaround, and there is one also here. http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=72514&p=240209&hilit=ttl#p240209

Haven’t tried it yet, but imagine it should work.

You have to use the command line to set the TTL, or set the TTL in the parameters line of the GUI before you start the stream. I am unsure of the syntax, and all the documentation is cloudy on what the actual format for the syntax is.

OK – so I owe dinner and several libations of choice to several people…  J

Has anyone noticed that the latest VLC version (1.0.5 and maybe others) appears to set TTL = 1 on UDP streams no matter what you set it to in the GUI? Anyone else out there come across this problem and knows the best workaround? Just did a wireshark on the stream and every frame has ttl=1 even though I set it to 32.

Many thanks to all,

Colleagues,

Looks like we might be getting closer to the problem preventing us sending mcast from here. Could you please see if you can receive the following:

DVTS – 233.73.103.152 port 8000

Many thanks,
