Title: Re: Live Demo of Access Grid/DVTS for Vinton Cerf Thu 5:30 pm Eastern Time
I’ve use it on 10.5.6 w/multiple iSights AND built in USB camera on my MBP... (older model, but works). Just the audio is the issue which is being addressed (I hope) soon.

Frank,

to be honest, there's an audio issue with the Mac that's been unresolved for a long time.
so it may work or not; or work for a while.

the video should be fine. (except for the higher quality H.264 streams :-(

fyi,

Frank on my PPC with osx tiger version 3.1 it works , i just tested it , only my isight has some problems right now.

Interesting  Adobe has an issue with firewire cams and video/ audio  too . You can´t get both from ONE source

So i used ISIGHT video firewire and the build in microphone for audio, i had it working once and talked to a guy

on an acces grid node.

good luck!!!

How about the Mac OSX version?
I have a spare Mac Pro right now, no win machines.
And a linux box, but just getting familiar with Ubuntu, no time....too many projects!

Thanks,
Frank

Frank,

I would beware of the 3.2beta1 for Windows. There are 'issues'.
I would go with 3.1 stable. Also, use the bundled ezy installer (again for windows).
But then you have to install the h.264 capable video client separately (under Projects).

You can also just install the video client and audio client separately and
run from the command line. I don't have a quick link for you though. I'll see what i
can do.

Other complications: the DV stream requires an additional module, bundled in the
"bundle" version.

Sorry for making it sound so complicated (it is too complicated!).

But thanks for you interest!

Gurcharan,

Sorry regarding my ignorance on anything more than the basic concept o perused their web site, but had two simple questions I could not find answered:

1. Is it possible to set up a simple client to just "peek in" and not participate? If so, is there a quick-start install guide?
I looked below, but did not find anything appropriate
http://www.accessgrid.org/documentation
i.e. don't mind some command line work, but are there any GUI admin tools?

2. How much bandwidth is typically required to use it, for example in your case? Is there a minimum bandwidth requirement?

Please point me to any FAQs, sorry to bother you at a busy time.
If anyone else has some answers, that's fine.

Thanks
