Note also that - contrary to apparent widespread belief - multicast streams can also be played using RTSP. (RTSP is *not* just for unicast streams.) See, for instance, the example in section 14.4 of RFC 2326 (the RTSP specification). Most RTSP clients (including VLC and QuickTime Player) support this.
