I'm excited to announce that Internet2 is offering IPv4 multicast and IPv6 
multicast hands-on workshops in conjunction with the upcoming Joint-Techs 
workshop at the University of New Mexico in February 2006.

A 2-1/2 day IPv4 multicast hands-on workshop (also known as just the 
"Multicast hands-on workshop) will be 2-4 February 2006. Logistics and

The IPv4 multicast workshop will focus primarily on IPv4 multicast 
technologies and implementation with a brief discussion of IPv6 Multicast. 
Instructors will be Alan Crosswell of Columbia University and Internet2 
Multicast Working Group chair, Bill Owens of NYSERnet and Richard Machida 
of the University of Alaska - Fairbanks.

Prerequisite experience for the IPv4 Multicast workshop is experience with 
router configuration and basic routing protocols.

A new 1-day IPv6 Multicast hands-on workshop will be 4-5 February 2006 (1pm 
Feb 4 until noon Feb. 5).  Logistics and registration for this workshop are

The IPv6 multicast workshop will focus on configuring IPv6 multicast 
networks.  The workshop is written and led by Stig Venaas, senior scientist 
at UNINETT, the Norwegian Research and Education Network. Stig has taken 
part in the test and deployment of IPv6 multicast in M6Bone, 6NET, UNINETT 
and University of Southampton, including Embedded-RP, BSR, Bidir-PIM and 
SSM. Bill Owens, director of advanced technology and networking for 
NYSERNet, who is active in the m6bone project, will also be instructing in 
this workshop.  This is the first IPv6 Multicast workshop offered by 
Internet2 and if it is successful, more will be offered.

Prerequisite experience for the IPv6 Multicast workshop is experience with 
deploying native unicast IPv6 and IPv4 multicast networks.
