Dave,
Time Warner is using Real Networks for this service. Real is providing
all the nuts and bolts, including back office, encoders, DRM, etc. The
service is multicast, accessible only to the TW customers in that location.
I saw a demo of the service at Supercomm in Chicago and was impressed.
The encode rate was 700kbps, but is adjustable. I don't know if TW is
redistributing all their content over IP, but Real was showing some
niche channels in addition to some larger networks at Supercomm.

Re: TV Via IP in San Diego?
We provide some Wholesale video to one of our customers that is using
Widevine for their encryption. We send the channels down to them ATM and
they in turn put a multicast IP on it and send it down to their customers.

With Real's Helix server I belive authenticated secure traffic is unicast.
I'm not sure you can lock down a multicast stream.

It's Real Networks, (www.real.com) not Microsoft. I do not know if it is
IP multicast.

Selected San Diego Time Warner cablemodem customers can watch television
on their computers.
Does anyone on the list have any information on how this is being done?
Is this Windows Media? 9 or 10? Does it use IP Multicast?
Dave
