Thought I'd share this with you - an Internet2 school is using multicast to stream their Commencement.  They did this last year as an experiment, this year it is on their web page!

Here is the release:

Washington University in St. Louis will broadcast its 144th Commencement at 8:30a.m. CDT on May 20, 2005 over the Internet2 network via multicast.  The Commencement Address will be delivered by Former U.S. Representative Richard A. Gephardt.  Additional information can be found at http://commencement.wustl.edu/.

Washington University in St. Louis, a medium-sized, independent university, is counted among the world’s leaders in teaching and research.  Twenty-two Nobel laureates have been associated with Washington University, with nine doing the major portion of their pioneering research here.

The university offers more than 90 programs and almost 1,500 courses leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in a spectrum of traditional and interdisciplinary fields, with additional opportunities for minor concentrations and individualized programs.

could you send me s ahort paragraph about this multicast event?  I'd like to send it out to the multicas working group, the bigvideo working group, ... as an example of an Internet2 school that is taking advantage of advanced network capability.  (I want to make you guys famous!)

Theron Baird wrote:

Yeah, we aren't sending video now. I think it is working. I got confirmation from others.

Thanks for your help.

can anyone see this?  I'm not in the office today, so if you can see it, please let Theron know!

I'm assuming you can use the VLC client to view this stream.

Mr. Riddle,

Once again, we are multicasting our commencement this Friday.

In the past, you have been able to confirm the feed for me. Everything looks good from here, but I would like to be sure people can see it from the outside.

The destination IP is 233.9.248.1, port 4444. The title is Washington University Commencement.

I am currently feeding our University TV station, they are showing a movie at the present time.

Can you take a look?
