ABSTRACT

Linux animation and special effects are part of more than thirty feature
films including Star Wars Episode II, Lord of the Rings, and Shrek. How
did a free operating system created by a unversity student as a hobby
become the most popular platform for Hollywood production? How are
Disney, DreamWorks, ILM, Paramount, Pixar, Sony Pictures, Universal, and
other studios using it? And, what does it all mean for the future of
Linux and Hollywood?

*Robin Rowe is a partner in MovieEditor.com, a contributing editor for
Linux Journal, and founder of LinuxMovies.org.
