Hi All,
See below for an announcement of the next set of Internet2 Office Hours. The topic is routing intention. Please join us (details below). (And, if you have lingering questions regarding IRR, please send to ). Thanks.
Linda

Announcing the next round of Internet2 Office Hours! This round focuses on topics related to routing intention and security.  A recent NIST Publication (still in draft form; see https://bit.ly/32sUwSy) will guide the topics covered. The first of this series is scheduled for 3pm ET November 20th

Our first topic addresses routing intention (i.e., designing and implementing your desired routing policy, or getting the most benefit out of multiple peerings that include networks such as I2 R&E, I2PX, commercial transit, regional peering, etc.). We'll focus on routing knobs such as local-pref, AS-prepending, and disaggregating.
In additional we'll loop in a couple of NIST recommendations:

Security Recommendation 37: An AS operator should have an ingress policy to tag routes internally (locally within the AS) to communicate from ingress to egress regarding the type of peer (customer, lateral peer, or transit provider) from which the route received.

Security Recommendation 38: An AS operator should have an egress policy to utilize the tagged information (in Security Recommendation 37) to prevent route leaks when routes are forwarded on the egress. The AS should not forward routes received from a transit provider to another transit provider or a lateral peer. Also, the AS should not forward routes received from a lateral peer to another lateral peer or a transit provider.

The office hour series will begin with presentations from a Jeff Bartig, and a couple of additional community members. Then we'll move on to office hours dedicated to general discussion of the topic, during which community experts can answer questions and suggest approaches.
