Susan, (cc'ing MattM, SteveW - mentioned below...)
I'm not sure about routinely offered classes/workshops.
But here's a short list of folks I'd ping; they have all been
involved in high-performance transfers, and I think have either put
together workshops before, or are at least certainly
comfortable in front of a crowd.
Worst case, if none of them are available/willing, let me know- I
might be game to help put something together...
1. Matt Mathis
()
- did SACK, worked with John Heffner on
web100, and has been a proponent/experiments of high-performance
transfers for a long time.
2. Steve Wallace
()
- guilty of helping
create Tsunami, and therefore facile with transferring
large data sets. ;-)
3. I'm pretty sure the folks at NLANR/DAST have done high-performance
workshops in the past, but it looks like their funding has ended.
Still, the individuals might be operational -
steve w.- any ideas/pointers?
4. Attendees (esp. the ones that attend multiple years) of PFLDNet:
http://www.hpcc.jp/pfldnet2009/Program.html
and:
http://www.hpcc.jp/pfldnet2009/Commitee.html
are pretty well-versed, and it wouldn't surprise me
if some of them held classes at their home institutions.
THis might take a bit of digging, but if 1,2,3 (above) don't
work out, I could help ping some of these folks.
Basically, folks in either the
high-performance computing community (cf. http://sc09.supercomputing.org )
or the transport community (this mail list not a bad start...)
are the ones that are likely to help here...
Best regards (and let me know if I can help further),
Larry Dunn

All,
Not sure if this is the right group but you may be aware of a class/ course offering somewhere that focuses on transferring large data sets and I would love to hear about it.
Thanks for any input,

Hi Linda,
We do not have anything like that (of which I am aware anyway) in our current box of options and unless we have more interest, it might not be economical to create such a class. We can check with the Member Relations team to see if they have had any other requests for such a class. I am copying our team who might know of Internet2 member individuals we could link up with George to teach such a class for him and/or we could investigate offerings by others (commercial) that we could suggest. One of us will contact George to find out more about what he has in mind.
Thanks for passing this along. Also, just a reminder that we have an email called "" (which goes to our workshop team) where folks can request info like this.
Thanks
Renee

Hi Renee,
I am not sure if this is a question for you or someone else so please point me in the appropriate direction if this falls out of your scope. George Loftus asked me about a class that teaches people about transferring large data sets. He mentioned that networking people from Brown had asked about this and that FTP seems inadequate for their needs. There seemed to be enough interest in this subject in the northeast that they would like to have a class for NEREN or perhaps NOX members. Yes, the subject is a little vague and I would be happy to put you or someone else in contact with George or the person asking about this, if that would be helpful. Thanks.
