Hi all, I’ve heard from several folks who are registering for the afternoon session, which is great! A couple things that have come up:

  • My mistake, the fee is $35, not $25
  • To add this to your registration - just do a separate registration for this tutorial only, and we will link you up on the back end.

Thanks!
Ben

Hi all, thanks for registering for the upcoming "SIP and VoIP In-Depth Tutorial” at the Internet2 Technology Exchange. This tutorial will run in the morning, and we wanted to make sure you are aware of a sister tutorial also hosted by Walt Magnussen that will be running in the afternoon: "Understanding the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)"

Use your Wi-fi to enhance in building cellular coverage.

Internet2 is hosting a workshop at the TechEx meeting in October that will introduce an exciting new project.  For the last several years the wireless service providers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, TMobile etc.) have been implementing an architecture that is designed to allow support or real time voice and video across several types of networks.  These networks include 3G, LTE, wi-fi and others.  This architecture is called the IP Multimedia Subsystem or IMS.

This workshop will make attendees familiar with the IMS architecture and hopefully will entice them to become a part of a proposed project that would make a cloud based IMS service available to Internet2 members.  The goal of this project would be to show grass roots support by the higher education community for an IMS peering with the service providers that would allow us to integrate our campus SIP proxies with the wireless cellular networks.  This would not only support true fixed mobile convergence but it would let us use our existing wi-fi infrastructure to support wi-fi cellular offload.  This has a great potential to reduce in building DAS dependency.

This will not be your only opportunity to be a part of this exciting opportunity but it would be a great way to get up to speed rapidly.

The IMS tutorial is still open for registration at $25: https://meetings.internet2.edu/2017-technology-exchange/attendee-information/registration/

SIP VoIP and IMS are related topic spaces, so in the past many attendees have chosen to attend both. If you have any questions please let myself or Walt know -

Best,
Ben
