While I haven't used the smaller ATA's, something like a Handytone 286
<http://www.grandstream.com/y-286.htm> and a regular analog phone might
fit your needs. If you're in a hotel you could just unplug the hotel
phone and plug it into the FXS port. Of course another alternative
would be a USB handset to interface with a softphone on a laptop. I
actually used a bluetooth USB headset with my Xten lite softphone while
I was on a trip to China last year. While the latency getting back to
the states took a little getting used to, the quality was surprisingly
good considering the congestion on the highly used hotel WAN link.
