Thanks to everyone that responded. We can discuss further on today's
call. Here are the results and comments.
Dennis
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1a) [57%] A 1-day workshop in San Jose, CA on 3/7/05 before the spring
VON conference <http://www.von.com/>
-or-
1b) [64%] A 1-1/2 day workshop in Arlington, VA before or after the
Internet2 Spring Member Meeting
<http://events.internet2.edu/2005/spring-mm/
-and-
2a) [79%] A more technical "hands-on" workshop dealing with SIP.edu
installation and configuration issues
-or-
2b) [36%] A more strategic workshop dealing with the future directions
for the SIP.edu project and SIP related campus services
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to attend another technical workshop, but would like to see
more info on the configuration of DNS, Gateways... not just the
proxies/phones. I understand that this might make the session longer
than currently possible, but is something i would like to see in future
session
I would be most interested in the 1b and 2b options. 1a sounds equally
compelling, but we are on track to set up an asterisk server relatively soon
and the strategic workshop will be of longer lasting value.
Personally I more interested in 2b but think that 2a will better meet a
larger number of people's needs. Also the Strategic workshop could be
better jammed into a BOF or perhaps the last 1/2 day could more to these
issues and people could join in then.
After looking at the VON schedule and especially the other tutorials we
would be competing against, I'm not convinced that it is a good place
for us to be at this time. I think we would be lost even amongst the
Higher Ed crowd. Maybe I'm just too pessimistic about that, but my gut
feeling is that it would be better to hit the MM and then do VON in the
Fall or next Spring.
1a, 1b and 2a work for me. 2a sounds interesting however it will
probably require more planing so the "hands-on" stuff is actually
useful.
I believe 1-1/2 days will be more appropriate to cover more technical
details.
Technical workshop is more beneficial for deployment. Many people are
interested in deploying this service. However, without understanding
the details, they hesitate in making the decisions.
