I think that plan should be "get people that know the area willing to work on
it". This model of everything having to go into core and us having to be
experts in everything just doesn't work.
In this particular case, the idea that somebody would care about it being an
extension is weird to me. There have to a hundred bigger issues to worry
about in deploying something like this at scale.
